Artur Strasser, b. Postojna, Slovenia (then Adelsberg), April 8, 1854, d. Vienna, Nov. 8, 1927, sculptor. Studied at the Vienna College of Fine Arts, worked in the studio of V. Tilgner, 1881-1883 in Paris on a grant, 1892 journey to Egypt, 1899-1919 teacher at the Vienna School of Arts and Crafts. The polychromy of his terracotta figures and bronzes made them appear very true to life; often depicted Oriental characters; created the group of bronze figures "Marc Anton mit Löwengespann" (1899/1900), today situated next to the "Secession" building in Vienna.
